(Genus):Body elongate. Eye small. Lateral line single and straight. Tip of lower jaw with a conical cartilagious process. First anal spine large, dagger-shape, followed by smaller two spines which completely fused each other and also with the first soft ray. Pelvic fin with a spine and 5 soft rays. Dorsal and anal fins each with two fin-lets. Vomer and palatine without teeth. Skin smooth. Abdomen not keeled. Caudal peduncle without lateral keel. (Species):One species, Nesiarchus nasutus.
Distribution:
Tropical to subarctic waters of Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans. Type locality‐Madeira.
Remarks:
This species is rare in the Pacific or Indian oceans, but it is common in the waters off Suriname. (Fujii)
