(Genus):Body moderately elongate. A single lateral line fairly straight. Spines of anal fin apparently separated from soft rays. First anal spine large, dagger-shape, followed by a minute spine. Pelvic fin vestigial, consisting of one spine and one ray. Dorssal and anal fins each with 2 fin-lets. Tip of lower jaw without a conical cartilagious process. Vomer with teeth, but palatine lacking teeth. Skin smooth. Abdomen not keeled. Caudal peduncle without lateral keel. (Species):One species, Nealotus tripes.
Distribution:
Warm waters of Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans. Type locality‐Madeira.
Remarks:
It seems that this is the first record of N. tripes from the western tropical Atlantic Ocean. (Fujii)
