Counts：D Ⅵ-Ⅰ, 9; A Ⅱ, 9; P1 12; GR4+14.
特 徴：
体は側扁し、体長は体高の2.6～3.0倍。体は櫛鱗におおわれる。眼は大きく，頭長は眼径の3.5～3.9倍。両顎に犬歯がある。前鰓蓋骨の後縁は鋸歯状。尾柄は細長く，尾鰭は2叉する。体は淡赤色で，吻端から前鰓蓋骨の上後方にかけて1暗色縦帯が走る。尾鰭の末端は黒色。他の鰭は淡色。
分 布：
大西洋の東西両岸に分布。西部ではバハマ諸島からスリナム沿岸まで。
備 考：
本種は同属の他種から両顎に犬歯があり，臀鰭に9軟条あることで容易に識別される。 （松浦）
Distinctive characters：
Body oblong and compressed, body depth 2.6～3.0 in SL. Body covered with ctenoid scales. Eye large, its diameter 3.5～3.9 in head. Both jaws with canine teeth. Posterior edge of preopercle serrated. Caudal peduncle slender. Caudal fin forked. Body pale red; a longitudinal dark band extending from snout to upper posterior part of preopercle; edge of caudal fin black, other fins pale.
Distribution：
Both sides of the Atlantic; in the western Atlantic from the Bahamas to Suriname.
Remarks：
This species in distinguishable from other species of Atlantic Apogon by the canines on both jaws and nine soft rays in the anal fin. (Matsuura)
