特 徴：
（科）：体は縦扁する。腹面は平らで，尾部は太く，体盤と区別できる。（属）：腹面は小棘で覆われる。胸鰭は尾部から離れる。体盤はほぼ三角形で，下鰓蓋棘はない。尾部の腹面に側線孔はない。両顎，舌部，口蓋骨及び鋤骨にじゅう毛歯がある。鰓耙は微小歯で覆われた楕円形の板からなり，すべての鰓弓にある。肛門と臀鰭起部の間に1列の骨質板が並ぶ。（種）：胸鰭は11〜12軟条，鰭膜は灰白色か乳白色である。胸鰭軟条の先端部腹面は肉質部を欠く。額角は長く，体盤長の0.3〜0.5倍である。主側線孔は20〜22個，下鰓蓋部側線孔は5〜6個，頬部側線孔8個，上顎部側線孔は3個。体盤長は頭高の2.0〜2.3倍，眼径の5.0〜6.0倍，口幅の3.0〜3.7倍。
分 布：
本種はカリブ海，スリナム沖から報告されている。

本種は小型で，最大体長は約70mm（Bradbury, 1980）。 （上野・藍澤）
Distinctive characters：
(Family)：Body depressed. Ventral surface markedly flattened. Tail stout, distinct from the disc. (Genus)： Ventral surface of body completely covered with spinules. Pectoral fin lobe separated from tail. Disc subtriangular in outline. Subopercular spine absent. No lateral-line pore on ventral surface of tail. Teeth present on jaws, tongue, palatine and vomer. Gill rakers, oval plate in form covered with small denticles, present on all 4 arches. Single row of tubercle-like scales present between anus and anal fin origin. (Species)： Pectoral fin rays 11〜12, membrane thin and translucent, no fleshy pad on ventral surface of rays. Rostrum long, its length 30〜50％ of DL. Main lateral-line pores 20〜22, subopercular series 5〜6, cheek series 8, premaxillary series 3. Head depth 2.0〜2.3, eye diameter 5.0〜6.0, mouth width 3.0〜3.7 in DL.
Distribution：
This species known from Caribbean Sea, off Suriname.
Remarks：
This is a small species in the genus, maximum SL about 70 mm (Bradbury, 1980). (Uyeno and Aizawa)
