(Family):Body depressed. Ventral surface markedly flattened. Tail stout, distinct from the disc. (Genus):Ventral surface of body completely covered with scales. Pectoral fin lobe separated from tail. Disc subtrianbular in outline. Subopercular spine absent. No lateral-line pore on ventral surface of tail. Teeth present on jaws, tongue, palatine, and vomer. Gill rakers in the form of oval plate covered with samll denticles, present on all 4 arches. Single row of tubercle-like scales between anus and anal fin orgin. (Species):Pectoral fin rays 12〜13, membrane black distally, ventral surface of tip of rays become fleshy pad. Main lateral-line pores 30〜32, subopercular series 7〜8, cheek series 9, premaxillary series 3. Eye diameter 5.0〜6.3, mouth width 3.1〜3.6, rostum length 4.0〜4.5 in disc length.
Distribution:
This species is known from the west coast of U. S. A. to northern Brazil.
Remarks:
This is a larger species in the genus:maximum SL about 40 cm (FAO, 1978). (Uyeno and Aizawa)
