(Family):Body depressed. Ventral surface makedly flattened, tail stout and distinct from the disc. (Genus):Ventral surface of body without scales, naked. Pectoral fin lobe continuons with tail by skin. Disc round, subopercular spine undivided. Teeth present on vomer and palatine. Gill filaments on 2nd, 3rd and lower arm of 4th ones. Gill rakers in the form of pats of teeth set on low pedicel, present on 1st, to 3rd, but out on 4th. (Species):Pectoral and caudal fins with black bands. White spots at base of pelvic fin and anterior to anal fin origin with white spots. Ventral surface white.
Distribution:
This species distributed from off New Foundland to northern South America.
Remarks:
This genus distributed from only the Atlantic. (Uyeno and Aizawa)
