(Family):Body depressed. Ventral surface markedly flattened, the tail stout and distinct from the disc. (Genus):Ventral surface of body completely covered with scales. Pectoral fin lobe separated from tail. Disc subtriangular in outline. A strong multifid subopercular spine on either side. Villiform teeth present on jaws and tongue. Lateral-line organs on ventral surface of tail. Gill filaments on 2nd and 3rd gill arches. Gill rakers present on 1st to 3rd arches but absent on 4th arch. (Species):Tooth absent on vomer and palatine. Disc length 1.8〜2.5 times, disc width 1.3〜1.8 times, head length 1.7〜2.0 times in SL. Disc length slightly shorter than disc width. Main lateral pores 11〜12, subopercular series 10〜11, mandibular series 9.
Distribution:
This species known from Culf of Mexico, Carbbean Sea, and west coast of Africa (Cape Verdes).
Remarks:
This species is known only from the Atlantic Ocean. (Uyeno and Aizawa)
