Specimens examined：22 (SL 28.0〜130.0 mm). Depth：180〜910 m.

特 徴：
（科）：体は縦扁する。腹面は平らで，尾部は太く。体盤と区別できる。（属）：腹面は鱗で覆われる。胸鰭は尾部から離れる。体盤はほぼ三角形で，下鰓蓋棘は多様に分枝する。両顎と舌部はじゅう毛歯帯をもつ。尾部の腹面に側線がある。鰓弁は第2・第3鰓弓にある。鰓耙は第1から第3鰓弓にあり，第4鰓弓にない。（種）：鋤骨と口蓋骨に歯がない。体長は体盤長の1.8〜2.5倍，体盤幅の1.3〜1.8倍，頭長の1.7〜2.0倍。体盤長は体盤幅よりやや短い。主側線孔は11〜12個，下鰓蓋部側線孔は10〜11個，下顎部側線孔は9個。
分 布：
本種はメキシコ湾，カリブ海，及びアフリカ西部から報告されている。
備 考：
本種は大西洋のみに分布する。 （上野・藍澤）
Distinctive characters：
(Family)：Body depressed. Ventral surface markedly flattened, the tail stout and distinct from the disc. (Genus)：Ventral surface of body completely covered with scales. Pectoral fin lobe separated from tail. Disc subtriangular in outline. A strong multifid subopercular spine on either side. Villiform teeth present on jaws and tongue. Lateral-line organs on ventral surface of tail. Gill filaments on 2nd and 3rd gill arches. Gill rakers present on 1st to 3rd arches but absent on 4th arch. (Species)：Tooth absent on vomer and palatine. Disc length 1.8〜2.5 times, disc width 1.3〜1.8 times, head length 1.7〜2.0 times in SL. Disc length slightly shorter than disc width. Main lateral pores 11〜12, subopercular series 10〜11, mandibular series 9.
Distribution：
This species known from Culf of Mexico, Carbbean Sea, and west coast of Africa (Cape Verdes).
Remarks：
This species is known only from the Atlantic Ocean. (Uyeno and Aizawa)
