(Family): Two dorsal fins. Caudal fin developed usually. Inner margin of pectoral separated from tail. (Genus): Forward extension of anterior rays of pectoral fin not reaching as far as tip of snout. Rostral cartilage robust, extending to tip of snout. (Species): Orbital spines 4〜5 in the specimens around 200 mm DW, 7〜8 in the specimens around 400〜500 mm DW. No strong thorns anywhere on upper surface. Minute pricles scattered over entire disc. Lower surface smooth except a band of pricles along rostral cartilage and anterior margin of disc. Tail with a median row of 14〜28 thorns beginning somewhat posterior to axil of pelvic and ending a little in front of 1st dorsal; the number of thorns greater in the larger specimens. No interspace between dorsals. Tail widest at the middle of its length. Caudal membrane ending below the middle of caudal fin. Both sides of disc dark brown.

The present species is best characterized by the shape of tail.
