(Family): Two dorsal fins. Caudal fin developed usually. Inner margin of pelvic separated from tail. (Genus): Forward extension of anterior rays of pectoral fin not reaching as far as tip of snout. Rostral cartilage robust, extending to tip of snout. (Species): Upper surface of disc smooth. Single nuchal thorn present. A row of 14 thorns along median line of tail extending nearly to first dorsal fin. Three orbital spines. Nasal curtain fringed. Teeth elliptical, each with a small triangular cusp. Both sides of body pale brown.

Reported from off Florida. Off Suriname.
Remarks:
The present species is similar to R. teevani in the shape of disc, but the tail of the latter is widest at the middle of its length. (Uyeno and Miyake)
