(Family): Two dorsal fins. Caudal fin developed usually. Inner margin of pelvic separated from tail. (Genus): Forward extension of anterior rays of pectoral fin not reaching as far as tip of snout. Rostral cartilage robust, extending to tip of snout. (Species): Middle of snout produced, but the sides of it slightly concaved. A band of small thorns on lower surface from tip of snout to extreme outer margin of pectoral. Thorns of median row originated somewhat behind eye and extending to first dorsal; small thorns of lateral row present on tail. Nasal curtain fringed. Upper surface pale brown. Three pairs of prominent white markings on disc. Lower surface white; posterior part of pectoral and pelvic widely margined black.
Distribution:
Reported from northern part of Gulf of Mexico. Off Suriname.
Remarks:
In the specimen of 172 mm DW, white markings vague except those beside spiracles. (Uyeno and Miyake)
