(Family): Two dorsal fins. Caudal fin developed usually. Inner margin of pelvic separated from tail. (Genus): Forward extension of anterior rays of pectoral fin not reaching as far as tip of snout. Rostral cartilage robust, extending to tip of snout. (Species): Anterior margin of disc nearly straight, not concave medially. Upper surface of disc, pelvic, and tail covered with small pricles. Continuous 36〜37 thorns along mid-line of back and tail from nape to first dorsal fin. Color purplish gray above, grayish black below except white around mouth and forward area of pelvic origin.
Distribution:
Northern part of Gulf of Mexico. Off Suriname.
Remarks:
The original description shows an individual with 3 rows of thorns on tail. The present specimens are similar to R. magellanica and R. macloviana in having only single row of thorns, but in these 2 species pricles on upper surface sparse, the number of median row thorns less than 30, and the color of lower surface yellow or white.
