特 徴：
殻高190mm，殻径130mm。殻は球型，薄質軽量。螺培はよく膨れるが低く，殆ど大きい体層で占められる。胎殻は大きく黒褐色。後生層は白地に，淡褐色の濃淡のある幅広い螺肋をめぐらし，次体層では数本，体層には約20本あり，不規則な間肋も生ずる。縫帯は明らかで臍孔がある。かなり粗い殻皮を被っている。殻口は広く外唇はやや厚くなり，外の螺肋に応じて隆起列がある。内壁も淡褐色で外の螺肋に応じて深い螺溝となる。軸唇は薄い滑層が沈着し，低く目立たない軸襞様の滑層隆起がある。蓋はない。動物体は大きく灰褐色。歯舌採集記録：
水深30〜173m（生貝多数）。
分 布：
ノースカロライナ，西インド諸島からブラジル。更に地中海〜インド・太平洋に分布する汎世界種。
Diagnostic characters：
Height 190 mm, breadth 130 mm. Shell globular, thin, light. Spires low but body whorl very large. Protoconch large and dark brown. Teleoconch with broad and low spiral ribs, about 20 on the body whorl, with irregular secondary ribs. Fasciole distinct, with open umbilicus. Aperture broad with somewhat thickened outer lip. Columellar lip with callus and an indistinct fold. Lack of operculum. Radula of taenioglossate type; central with serrated large central cusp with 2 lateral cups on both sides; lateral slender with denticles inside; both marginals simple.
Distribution：
North Carolina, West Indies to Brazil, also Indo-Pacific.
