Height 65 mm, breadth 48 mm. Shell thin, globular, with large brownish protoconch. Teleoconch with spaced slender spiral ribs with weaker secondary ribs in between and crossing with axial lirae. Surface pale brownish, sometimes being darker on spiral ribs. Aperture broad with thin outer lip. Columellar lip with a thin callus and a low fold. Siphonal canal shallow. Operculum lacking. Radula of taenioglossate; central low trapezoid, with serrated central cusp with 2 lateral cusps on both sides; lateral large, with serration inside; marginals simple sickle-shaped.
Distribution:
New Jersey to Lesser Antilles and off Suriname, the Mediterranean to South Africa. Slope to bathayl.
Remarks:
This group of snails has a long pelagic life which helps them to disperse in transoceanic distance. Therefore, there are many broad-ranged species within this family.
