Anterior shield of carapace longer than width of front, being covered with depressions of variable sizes, furrows and scattered tufts of setae; no rostrum, and lateral angles triangular each with obtuse apex. Eyestalk stout and slightly constricted in middle, having a tuft of setae at base of dilated cornea; ophthalmic scales well separated and armed with some spinules distally. Antennular and antennal peduncles reach to tip of cornea each by median part of distal segment. Antennal acicle long, reaching to base of cornea, with some spines arranged in a spiral line from inner surface at base to lateral surface near tip. Chelipeds haevy and thickly covered with ciliated, tuberculate transverse rugosities. Ambulatory legs also with rugose pattern; in propodus and dactylus of left second leg the rugosities interrupted medially to form a longitudinal smooth furrow.
Distribution:
Previously known froms North Carolina through the Gulf of Mexico to Guadeloupe in the Lesser Antilles, 25-220 m deep.
Remarks:
Most of specimens carry one or more sea anemones on inhabiting shells.
