A large species having a long rostrum which attains more than twice as long as carapace. Carapace without spines or furrows except for usual antennal and anterolateral spines. Rostrum curving obliquely upward at proximal one-third, being armed with more than 35 spiniform teeth on upper margin and 40 on lower margin along their whole lengths; teeth on proximal one-third of upper margin rather widely spaced, but others on upper and lower margins evenly spaced and close-set; teeth curved along general curvature of rostrum. Scaphocerite long and nearly reaches to or only slightly behind median part of rostrum, being armed with a strong subterminal spine. First two pereiopods chelate, and carpus of second pereiopod subdivided as usual; meri of last three pairs with spines on posterior borders. Posterior edges of fourth to sixth abdominal pleurae produced into sharp points. Telson with three movable spines on its dorsal surface.
Distribution:
West Atlantic from North Carolina through the Bahamas to the Gulf of Mexico, and the East Atlantic from the Mediterranean and Spain to Angola, 150-680 m deep.
