Body elongate, compresed, body depth 4.3-4.9 times in SL. Head large, 3.2-3.4 times in SL. Interobital region narrow, with6-8 rows of scales between eyes, its width slightly smaller than eye diameter. Eye large. Snout as long as or slightly longer than eye diameter. Posterior and of maxilla slightly extending anterior margin of eye. Small jaw teeth in bands, those of outer row slightly enlarged, especially anteriorly. Jaws about equal anteriorly. Gill-rakers, short, slender. Pseudobranchiae present. Nostril single, with a tube-like flap around. Upper surface of head, cheeks and opercles covered with weak ctenoid or cycloid scales. Scales on body ctenoid. Two lateral lines; upper line running from upper insertion of opercle with gradual curve anteriorly to caudal peduncle region on dorsal part of body; lower line short, running on posterior part of tail to caudal base. Pectoral fin wide, longer than pelvic fin. Pelvic fin situated extremely anterior to pectoral fin base, its tip not reaching anus. Caudal peduncle depth slightly shorter than snout. Margin of caudal fin round. First dorsal fin low with short base, its height less than half of head. Second dorsal fin nearly same height as first dorsal fin. Anal fin base slightly shorter than second dorsal fin base.

Argentine Patagonia.
Remarks:
This species is the commonest species of Nototheniinae in Argentine Patagonia and the largest fish as Nototheniinae(up to nearly 40 cm SL). The depth range is about 50〜500 m.
