(Subfamily): Angle of preopercle without a long spine (Corniger with 1 or 2 spines). Anal soft rays more than 10. (Genus and Species): Dorsal spines 12. Angle of preopercle with 1 or 2 long spines. Infraorbital bones with 3 long spines directing posteriorly. Opercle with spines extending beyond opercular mambrane.
Distribution:
From South Carolina, east coast of Florida, Cuba, to Brazil.
Remarks:
This genus belongs to the submamily Myripristinae, though having long spines on preopercle is distinguishable from the Holocentrinae by usually having 11 anal soft rays. (Uyeno and Sato)
