本属は3種を含む。その内,大西洋からは本種のみ知られている(Rofen, 1966; Post, 1972)。本種の和名は腹中線に沿って走る2本の管状発光体に由来する。*印はRofen(1966)から引用。 (藤井)
Distinctive characters:
(Genus): Body and head naked except lateral line region. Dorsal fin located around midway between pectoral fin insertion and caudal fin base. Tip of lower jaw strongly curved upward. A single black papilla immediately before eye. Two luminous ducts along midventral line between head and pelvic fins. Lower jaw and palatine with long, well developed teeth. No saddle-like dark bloches on body. Pectoral fins small. (Species): Distance between verticals from dorsal fin origin and pelvic fin insertion 11.8〜13.8% of SL. Anal fin rays 40〜44*. Vertebrae 91〜98*.
Distribution:
Tropical waters of three major oceans. Type locality-Cuba.
Remarks:
The genus includes 3 species. Among them, only L. intermedia is known from the Atlantic (Rofen, 1966; Post, 1972). * Reference data from Rofen (1966). (Fujii)
