Body slender, cylindrical. Dorsal fin single, anterior to middle of body. Adipose fin present. Photophore absent. Lateral line present, scales not enlarged. Pelvic fin rays 9; the inner rays about equal to or shorter than outer rays. Palatine with 2 tooth raws. Lateral-line scales 54〜60. Complete scale rows between lateral line and dorsal fin origin 4. Dorsal fin origin closer to adipose fin than to tip of snout. Lower jaw longer than upper jaw, dorsally visible when mouth closed. Snout length about equal to eye diameter. Pectoral fin tip exceeding pelvic fin insertion, its length 17.5〜22% of SL.
Distribution:
This species known from Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and northern South America.
Remarks:
This species is distinguishable by its 4 complete scale rows above lateral line and other meristic characters. (Uyeno and Aizawa)
