Counts and measurements：D 18; A 20; P2 7. OV 20; IV 29; VAV 11+3; AC 10+3. HL 11.1～12.7% of SL; upper jaw 10.1～11.7; dorsal fin base 20.7～23.7; anal fin base 22.1～24.0; prepelvic 52.9～53.7; predorsal 71.3～72.6; preanal 72.1～72.3.
特 徴：
（属）：臀鰭起部は背鰭起部のほぼ下方にある。下顎は上顎より長く，上方へ強く湾曲する。両顎歯はそれぞれ1列で，すべて可倒歯。胸鰭は0～3軟条。鋤骨に1～2対の歯がある。（種）：背鰭と臀鰭の鰭膜は薄く，各鰭条は明瞭に見える。胸鰭がない。背鰭と臀鰭の基底は長く，標準体長の20％以上。腹鰭起部は頭部より尾鰭基底に近い。
分 布：
西部北大西洋の暖海域。模式産地-マルティニーク沖。
備 考：
本種は極めて珍しい種で，スリナム沖の2標本は世界で3番目と4番目のものである。和名は本種の背鰭と臀鰭の基底が長いことに由来する。（藤井）
Distinctive characters：
(Genus)：Origin of anal fin more or less below that of dorsal. Lower jaw longer than the upper, strongly curved upward. Teeth on jaws all depressible, in a single row. Pectoral fin with 0～3 rays. Vomer with 1～2 pairs of teeth. (Species)：Membrane of dorsal and anal fins thin, the rays clearly visible. Pectoral fins absent. Dorsal and anal fin bases long, more than 20% of SL. Pelvic insertion closer to head than to caudal fin base.
Distribution：
Warm waters of western North Atlantic. Type locality-off Martinique.
Remarks：
This species is so rare that two specimens from Suriname are the third and fourth ones in the world. (Fujii)
