特 徴：
（属）：体には2列の発光器があり，各発光器は明瞭に離れている。峡部に発光器がない。背鰭起部は臀鰭起部の直上あるいは後方。擬鰓がない。主上顎骨には一連の広く離れた比較的長い細い歯があり，それらの間には小歯がある。縫合発光器がある（G. bathyphilumを除く）。臀鰭は21〜32軟条。体側発光器は11〜21個。腹鰭前発光器は11〜16個。（種）：体の背部輪郭近くに列状発光器がない。体側発光器は13〜15個あり，その第1番目は高位だが，他はほぼ水平。尾部発光器は21〜23個あり，第2と第3が大いに高位で，他はほぼ水平。腹鰭前発光器は15個あり，最初の5〜6個が上向きの弧をなすが，他は水平。縫合発光器と眼下発光器には発光腺がある。肛門は臀鰭起部の直前にある。脂鰭がある。体全体に微小発光器がある。
分 布：
三大洋の暖海域。模式産地-ニューギニア南方。（藤井）
Distinctive characters：
(Genus)：Two rows of photophores present on body; each photophore distinctly separated. No photophores on isthmus. Dorsal origin above or posterior to anal origin. No pseudobranchiae. A series of well-separated, relatively long, slender teeth on maxillary; short teeth in the interspaces. SO present (except in G. bathyphilum). Anal fin rays 21〜32. OA photophores 11〜21; IV 11〜16. (Species)：No Serial photophores near dorsal profile of body. OA 13〜15; the first elevated, the others almost level. AC 21〜23, the 2nd and 3rd well elevated. IV 15; the first 5 or 6 forming an upward arch, the others level. A mass of glandular tissue associated with each SO and ORB. Anus just before origin of anal fin. Adipose fin present. Body and head with numerous minute photophores.
Distribution：
Warm waters of three major oceans. Type locality-South of New Guinea. (Fujii)
