特 徴：
（属）：眼は管状で，斜め上方を向く。口は小さく，両顎に微小歯がある。腹鰭起部は背鰭起部より後位。峡部に発光器がある。鰓条発光器は11〜13個。（種）：縫合発光器がある。両眼間隔は頭長の7.5〜10％*。鰓耙数は23〜26*。体側発光器は28〜29個*。腹部腹側発光器は11〜13個*。腹側発光器は50〜53個*。
分 布：
大西洋の熱帯水域。スリナム沖（7°46′N，54°20′W）。模式産地-ギニア湾。
備 考：
本種が西部大西洋熱帯水域から報告されるのは初めてである。シンジュエソ属は7種を含み，その内の2種が大西洋に分布する。大西洋産の他種，I. ovatus (Cocco) は，Soがないこと，両顎間隔が頭長の5〜5.9％であること，鰓耙数が19〜22，OAが24〜25個， VAVが10個，ICが46〜49個であることにより特徴づけられる。*印はMukhacheva (1980) より引用。（藤井）
Distinctive characters：
(Genus)：Eye tubular, directed obliquely upward. Mouth small, with minute teeth in jaws. Insertion of pelvic fin behind origin of dorsal fin. Photophores present on isthmus. BR photophores 11〜13. (Species)：So present. Interorbital space 7.5〜10.0％ of HL*. Gill rakers 23〜26*. OA photophores 28〜29; VAV 11〜13; IC 50〜53*.
Distribution：
Tropical waters of Atlantic Ocean. Off Suriname (7°46′N, 54°20′W). Type locality-Gulf of Guinea.
Remarks：
This is the first record of I. polli from the western tropical Atlantic. The genus includes 7 species, two of which are distributed in the Atlantic Ocean. Another Atlantic species, I. ovatus (Cocco), is characterised as follows：So absent; interorbital space 5.0〜5.9％ of HL; GR 19〜22; OA 24〜25; VAV 10; IC 46〜49. * Reference data from Mukhacheva (1980).
