Eye large. Anus situated just middle of body. Number of preanal lateral line pores 59. Dorsal and anal fin rays unsegmented. Dorsal origin over gill-opening. Upper edge of gill-opening opposite middle of pectoral fin base. Interbranchial distance greater than gill-opening. Labial flanges well developed on jaws. Posterior nostril simple pore without flap. No postorbital pores. Teeth conical and pointed; teeth on maxillary and dentary 2〜3 rows in bands; teeth on premaxillary in a patch, largest number of teeth in a transverse row of premaxillary tooth patch 5; vomerine tooth patch tear-drop shaped. Dorsal and anal fins margined black.
Distribution:
Coastal waters of Florida, Cuba, and northern South America.
Remarks:
Of the genera characterized by large eye and unsegmented fin rays, Parabathymyrus has the posterior nostril with flap, and Paraconger has the upper edge of gill-opening near upper end of pectoral base. (Uyeno and Sasaki)
