Snout pointed, preocular length equal to mouth width and 1.4〜1.5 times of internarial width. First dorsal originated above the inner margin of pectoral; second dorsal origin opposite end of anal base. Preanal ridge present. Tip of pectoral not reaching to below midpoint of first dorsal base when depressed. Precaudal pits present. Eye with nictitating membrane, its diameter 1/4〜1/3 of preocular length. Labial folds long, the upper 1/3 of mouth width. Teeth similar on jaws and strongly oblique with weakly serrated edge in larger specimen, smooth in smaller specimen.
Distribution:
Panama to southern Brazil.
Remarks:
R. porosus has pectoral fin reaching to midpoint of first dorsal base, and second dorsal fin originated anterior to midpoint of anal base (Springer, 1964). Corners of fins broadly rounded in smaller specimen. (Uyeno and Sasaki)
