本種は近似種C. oregon Clench et Turner, 1960と共にC. bairdii Verrill et Smith, 1880の亜種とされることもあるが(Abbott 1974),C. bairdiiは殻高と殻径がほぼ近似した,背の高い円錐形をしており,色彩も淡く,亜種とするには議論の余地がある。
Diagnostic characters:
Height 35 mm, breadth 44 mm. Shell thin, regularly conic with straight or slighty concave lateral walls, strong basal peripheral keel and weakly inflated base. Coloration greenish gold with 5-6 iridescent brownish spiral lirae with spaced reddish maculations along the periphery. Granular spiral ribs 12 per whorl among which 2 on shoulder and 2 on periphery stronger than others. Base with weak spiral ribs crossed by growth lines presenting a weak granular appearance. Umbilicus closed, only hollowed. Aperture roundly rhomboid, with a strong pearly lustre inside. Operculum horny, multispiral.
Distribution:
Colombia to Lesser Antilles and off Suriname.
Remarks:
C. bairdii differs from this species in having more elevated shell and paler coloration.
