メキシコボウズイカ（新称）（Voss' Bob-tailed squid）

特 徴：
外套長5cm。外套膜は丸く袋状で後端丸い。外套幅は外套長の1/20鰭は丸く耳状。腕には2列の吸盤がありやや疎に並ぶ。吸盤は先端に行くにつれ徐々に小さくなる。雄の左第Ⅰ腕が交接腕である。基部10対の吸盤は正常で，先端に向い縮小した4対の吸盤となり，基部寄り腹側には膜がある。触腕の掌部は中庸に拡大し，7─8列の微小吸盤が並ぶが，背側2列のそれはやや大きい程度で，ことさら大きくはない。背側は泳膜で縁取られている。体色は濃く，鰭の中央部あたりまで着色している。
採集記録：
水深230～379m（5個体）。
分 布：
フロリダ南部，メキシコ湾，スリナム沖。
備 考：
本種は次種タイセイヨウボウズイカR. (S.) teneraより大成し，腕吸盤が微小であることや，触腕吸盤のうち背側2列が僅かに大きい程度である点で識別されるが，左第Ⅰ腕が交接腕化する点では共通である。
Diagnostic characters：
Mantle 5 cm long, short, saccular, about twice the width. Fins oval. Arms with 2 rows of suckers arranged rather sparsely. Left dorsal arm in male hectocotylized, with 10 pairs of normal suckers proximally followed by about 4 pairs of suckers of reduced size distally. A wide lateral membrane extends to about 3/4 of the arm on the ventral side. Tentacles with moderate club carrying 7─8 rows of suckers of which the dorsalmost suckers the largest. Color dark purplish and pigmentation extends over about half of basal fin.
Distribution：
Southern Frolida, Gulf of Mexico and off Suriname.
Remarks：
This species is separable from R. tenera in its larger size, smaller arm suckers and slightly enlarged suckers of dorsal side of tentacular club.
