Carapace ovate, with dorsum rather flattened and strongly lobulated; areolae roughly granulated and somewhat scaly, and furrows smooth. Front most advanced in the middle, with a narrow median notch. Anterolateral border more or less crested and cut into four triangular teeth; first tooth placed below the level of external orbital angle, being directed toward antero-external angle of buccal flame. Chelipeds stout and equal; palm surmounted by a crest cut into five large teeth, and ornamented outside with granules arranged more or less in some longitudinal rows. Ambulatory legs long, anterior borders being fringed with hairs and small tubercles.
Distribution:
Previously known from off the Bahamas and West Indies, shallow waters.
Remarks:
This species is readily distinguished from the Pacific congener,E. lobipes (Rathbun), which is known from off Cape St. Lucas of the Lower California, the Bay of Panama and the Galapagos Islands, 10-60 m deep.
