Carapace and abdomen covered with granules and soft short hairs, especially granules on carapace prominent and distinctly perceptible by naked eye; deep postcervical groove, and a strong longitudinal ridge across branchial region; antennal spine slender, and orbital spine directed obliquely upward; an accessory granule or small tubercle behind orbital spine. Rostrum with a pair of lateral spine which is directed obliquely forward and upward; dorsal margin of rostrum distinctly ridged, with a median linear furrow. First pereiopod with soft hairs; merus with a spine each at terminal ends of upper and lower margins; carpus with a spine each at median and terminal parts of inner margin and at terminal ends of outer and lower margins. Abdomen with a median linear ridge; posterior pleurae narrower than the precedings.
Distribution:
West Atlantic from the Bermudas through the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea to French Guiana, 421-1,262 m deep.
Remarks:
This species is close to N. aculeata Smith, but readily distinguished from it by the presence of an accessory tubercle behind the orbital spine.
