特 徴：
（科）：下顎に多数のひげがある。胸鰭下部の2軟条は遊離する。（属）：両顎に歯がない。吻突起の後方から始まり眼下を横切り前鰓蓋骨に達する翼状隆起があり，その後角部は棘様でないか，または棘様であっても眼窩径より短かい。眼前背中線上に棘がない。（種）：翼状隆起の後角部は鈍角をなす。前鰓蓋骨の翼状隆起の下方に3個の小さく低い隆起があり，それらの縁辺は後向きの弱い鋸歯をなす。主鰓蓋骨の隆起に3本の棘様の突起がある。下顎後部に1個の小さな矩形の隆起がある。吻突起の基部付近と鼻骨にそれぞれ1小棘がある。眼前棘と眼上棘はない。眼後棘は2本。下顎のひげは片側22～24本で，うち側枝を有する長い1本は頭長の69％。体側の4列からなる鱗は背側からそれぞれ28+1，33+1，25+1，23+0枚（+印は尾鰭上の鱗を示す）で，第3列と第4列の間の胸鰭に覆われた部分に付加的な鱗が1枚ある。

Distinctive characters：
(Family)：Lower jaw with many barbels. Two lowermost pectoral rays free. (Genus)：Jaws without tooth. Posterior end of perifacial rim not ending as spine, if spine present shroter than eye diameter. No spine on midline of snout. (Species)：Posterior end of perifacial rim forming obtuse angle. Three ridges beneath perifacial rim on preopercle low, with serrations backwardly directing. Opercular ridge with 3 spinous projections. Posterior region of lower jaw with a small rectangular ridge. Near base of rostral exsertion and nasal with a single small spine respectively. No preocular and supraocular spines. Two postocular spines present. Lower jaw with 22～24 barbels on one side, longest one bearing branches 69％ of HL. Scales in 4 rows, 28+1, 33+1, 25+1 23+0 (from top to bottom row, + indicates scale on caudal fin), and one supplemental scale present between 3rd and 4th rows on axil of pectoral fin.
