特 徴：
（科）： 尾柄の横断面は正方形。尾鰭基底の両側には2列の肉質隆起がある。背鰭は棘部と軟条部とに明瞭に分かれる。1科1属。（種）： 体高は高く，体長の1/3以上。体側上半に，明瞭な黒色点が散在する。鱗は脱落しやすい。
分 布：
フロリダからギアナまでに分布。カリブ海西部には分布しない。 （清水）
Distinctive characters：
(Family)：Cross section of caudal peduncle square. Two fleshy keels on both sides of caudal fin base. Dorsal fin divided distinctively into spinous and soft portions. This genus only. (Species)：Body high, more than 1/3 of body length. Distinct black spots present sporadically on upper body side. Scales deciduous.
Distribution：
Florida to Guiana. Absent from the western Caribbean Sea. (Shimizu)
