(Family):Dorsal fin separated distinctly into spinous and soft portions. Pelvic fin thoracic. No fleshy keel on caudal peduncle. Mouth ending below anterior margin of orbit. (Genus):Body high, depth more than 40% of length. Anterior end of cephalic scaled area not exceeding beyond anterior margin of eye. Origin of dorsal fin before, or directly over in larger specimens, insertion of pectoral fin. (Species):Teeth on both jaws same shape. Dorsal rays 24〜28 (Haedrich, 1967). Lateral line following dorsal profile. A shallow groove, from median side to caudal peduncle.
Distribution:
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Oceans.
Remarks:
Younger individuals have yellow body color with blue streaks along scale rows. (Shimizu)
