Body strongly compressed. Dorsal profile of head slightly concave. Snout relatively short, projected, its length 2.7 in head length. Dorsal spines long, the third longest. Caudal fin truncate. Lateral line arched, ending at below posterior part of soft dorsal fin. Body white; a diagonal black band with cream edges running from origin of dorsal fin through eye to near corner of mouth; a narrow longitudinal black band running on dorsal edge of head from interorbital region to tip of snout; a broad diagonal black band with cream edges running from middle dorsal spines to soft portion of and fin; a black band extending from posterior dorsal spines to base of caudal fin; pelvic and caudal fins dusky.
Distribution:
Lesser Antilles to Suriname, inhabiting in waters about to 200 m deep.
Remarks:
This species resembles C. aya but is distinguishable from it by a black band from the posterior dorsal spines to the base of caudal fin. (Matsuura)
