特 徴：
体は長く，側扁する。体長は体高の2.7～3.2倍，頭長の2.8～2.9倍。頭長は眼径の3.4～3.7倍，吻長の3.3～3.4倍。下顎は上顎よりも前方に突出する。鋤骨の歯帯は菱形で後方へ延長する。両眼間隔域は突出する。胸鰭は鎌形で肛門上には達しない。尾鰭は2叉する。体の背方は朱色で側線より下方の体側を細い黄色線が多数走る。腹方は銀白色。背鰭は黄色。胸鰭，腹鰭，臀鰭は淡色。尾鰭は橙赤色。
分 布：
ノース・カロライナ，バーミューダ島からブラジルまで。
備 考：
他のフエダイ科魚類では背鰭棘が11本以下であるので本種の識別は容易である。

Distinctive characters：
Body oblong and compressed, body depth 2.7～3.2 in SL. Eye large, its diameter 3.4～3.7 in head length. Lower jaw projecting beyond upper jaw. Tooth patch on vomer rhomboid-like, extended posteriorly. Interorbital space concave. Pectoral fin falcate, its tip not reaching to above anus. Caudal fin forked. Body vermilion, longitudinal yellow lines on side of body below lateral line, belly silver; dorsal fin yellow; pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins pale; caudal fin pink.
Distribution：
From North Carolina, Bermuda to Brazil.
Remarks：
This species is easily distinguished from other lutjanids by 13 dorsal spines.
