Body oblong and compressed, body depth 2.7〜3.2 in SL. Eye large, its diameter 3.4〜3.7 in head length. Lower jaw projecting beyond upper jaw. Tooth patch on vomer rhomboid-like, extended posteriorly. Interorbital space concave. Pectoral fin falcate, its tip not reaching to above anus. Caudal fin forked. Body vermilion, longitudinal yellow lines on side of body below lateral line, belly silver; dorsal fin yellow; pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins pale; caudal fin pink.
Distribution:
From North Carolina, Bermuda to Brazil.
Remarks:
This species is easily distinguished from other lutjanids by 13 dorsal spines.
