(Family):Head cpmpressed. First dorsal fin consists of 1 illicium and suceeding 2 isolated stout spines. (Genus):Skin spinulose and rugose. shape of esca a group of filaments or ribbon-like tentacle or bulbous. Dorsal 13 rays, all or at least last 8 rays branched. Pelvic fin rays all branched. Anal fin 8 rays. Caudal peduncle distinct. (Species):Bony part of illicium longer than 2nd spine. Pectoral rays 13〜14, all unbranched. All dorsal rays branched. A black spot, a little larger than orbit, presents on body side below midpoint of soft dorsal fin base. Esca bulbous, usually very small.
Distribution:
From northern part of Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea to off Suriname.
Remarks:
Dorsal and pelvic rays all branched and bony part of illicium longer than 2nd dorsal spine. (Uyeno and Aizawa)
