(Family):Head compressed. First dorsal fin consists of one illicium and suceeding 2 isolated stout spines. (Genus):Skin spinulose and rugose. Esca comprised with bifid of trifid fleshy tentacles. Anal fin rays 6〜7, all branched. Last 2 or 3 dorsal rays branched. (Species):Esca cpmprised with bifid fleshy tentacles. Dorsal ray 11〜12, pectoral rays 10〜11. Bony part of esca equal to or slightly longer than 2nd dorsal spine. Body uniformly black or dark brown, without marking.
Distribution:
Western Atlantic, from Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and northern South America.
Remarks:
Black or dark brown body color, 11〜12 dorsal rays, and 10〜11 pectoral rays are diagnostic for the species. (Uyeno and Aizawa)
