(Family):Head cpmpressed. First dorsal fin consists of 1 illicium and suceeding 2 isolated stout spines. (Genus):Skin spinulose and rugose. Esca comprised with bifid or trifid fleshy tentacles. Anal fin rays 6〜7, all branched. Last 2 or 3 dorsal fin rays branched. All pectoral fin rays unbranched. Caudal peduncle distinct. (Species):Esca comprised with bifid fleshy tentacles. Dorsal rays 11〜12, pectoral rays 10〜11. Bony part of esca equal to or slightly longer than 2nd dorsal spine. Fins with dark brown markings, body with zebra streaks.
Distribution:
Western Atlantic, from Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and northern South America.
Remarks:
This is distinguishable by zebra streaks, 11〜12 dorsal rays, and 10〜11 pectoral rays from other species of the genus. (Uyeno and Aizawa)
