(Family):Head and anterior part of bady much depressed and very broard. Posterior part of body tapering. Skin smooth, naked with fleshy flaps. (Genus):Gill opening extending in front of pectoral fin. Bony ridge on snout, smooth. (Species):Dorsal fin spines 6, rays 8. Anal fin rays 8. The 3rd dorsal spine longest, reaching origin of soft dorsal fin. Pectoral fin rays 14〜16. Esca with pennant-like flap, long cirri, and usually with dark stalked eye-like appendages (Fig.). Dorsal surface of head, body and pectoral fins with distinct reticular color pattern. Ventral surface light tan to white. Ventral surface of pelvic fin darker distally.
Distribution:
This species is known from the western Atlantic coast.
Remarks:
This species differs from other species of the genus by distinct reticular color pattern on dorsal surface of head, body and pectoral fin. (Uyeno and Aizawa)
