(Genus):Body naked. Pectoral axilla with ovate, lamilated, glandular tissue; without pore. Dorsal spines, 3 embedded in the present specimen. Opercle with 2, subopercle with 1 spines; embedded but discernable by touch. A pulumose tentacle on supraorbital and end of gape. (Species):Head depressed, trunk compressed. Two lateral lines. Molariform teeth on both jaws. No venomous gland on any spine. Body brownish dorsally with balck diffuse mottlings, pale ventrally. Lateral-line pores distinct white spots. Fin membrane black distally.
Distribution:
Coasts from Panama to Brazil.
Remarks:
Tow species have been known in this genus. Another species A. hilderbrandi is reported having 26 anal fin rays (Breder, 1925). (Shimizu)
