(Family): Usually two dorsal and one anal fins; caudal fin separating from dorsal and anal fins; caudal peduncle narrow. Mouth terminal or inferior. Pelvic fin thoracic, never close togethor. (Genus): Chin barbel absent. Vomerine and palatine teeth absent. A small blackish ventral light organ present. (Species): Dorsal fins very close together. No elongate ray on fins. Upper jaw reaching to below middle of eye. Teeth on jaws needle-like and biserial, inner row enlarged near symphysis. Gill rakers rudimentary. Anus removed by about orbit diameter from anal fin origin. Orbital rim and around nostrils black; arrow shaped blackish mark present on tongue and roof of mouth.
Distribution:
Tropical western Atlantic and Cape Verde Islands.
Remarks:
