Specimens examined：5 (SL 167.1〜325.9 mm).
特 徴：
吻部に2対のヒゲがあり，1対は下顎縫合部下面にあり短く，1対は上顎後端にあり長く，先端は臀鰭起部を越える。胸鰭棘の糸条は長く，先端は臀鰭起部に達する。背鰭棘の糸条は偏平で長く，先端は尾鰭起部に達する。臀鰭基底長は長く，臀鰭の起部は倒した時の腹鰭先端に位置する。背・胸・腹鰭膜は黒い。臀鰭膜外縁は通常黒く（黒色域を欠く個体もある）基底部は白い。体の背方は銀灰色か青灰色で，腹方は銀白色である。
分 布：
コロンビアからブラジルにかけて分布する。
備 考：
本属の他の1種B. marinusは臀鰭基底長が短く，臀鰭起部が倒した時の腹鰭先端よりはるか後方に位置する。（清水）
Distinctive characters：
Two pairs of barbels on rostral region, one pair on lower jaw, one pair on posterior end of maxilla. End of maxilla barbel beyond anal fin origin. Pectoral spine filament long, reaching anal fin origin. Dorsal fin spine filament flattened, extremely long reaching caudal fin origin. Anal fin base long, depressed pelvic fin tip reaching anal fin origin. Dorsal, pectoral, and pelvic fin membranes black. Anal fin membrane black distally (some individuals white), white proximally. Body silver gray or blue gray dorsally, silver white ventrally.
Distribution：
From Colombia to Brazil.
Remarks：
Another species B. marinus having short anal fin base and depressed pelvic fin tip far from anal fin origin. (Shimizu)
