Three pairs of barbels on rostral region, two pairs on lower jaw, one pair on posterior end of maxilla. End of maxilla barbel reaching insertion of pectoral fin. No furrow connecting both posterior nostril openings. Anterior end of cephalic bony plate reaching nostril. No medial groove on cephalic bony plate. Cephalic bony plate continuous with supraoccipital bony plate. Supraoccipital bony plate showing various shape (Fig). A small crescentic bony plate before dorsal spine. Adipose fin base long, about equal to anal fin base length. Body yellow-brown, whitish ventrally. Each fin membrane blackish distally.
Distribution:
Northeastern coast of South America, from Guiana to Brazil. Habitat, coastal or estuarine waters.
Remarks:
Do not confuse individual of this species having round supraoccipital bony plate with A. quadriscutis having saddle-shaped supraoccipital bony plate (this species without crescentic bony plate). (Shimizu)
