Specimens examined：5 (DW 215〜525 mm; ♂4，♀1). Depth：16〜24 m.
特 徴
（科）：ほとんどの種は鋸歯縁のある尾棘を備える。眼と噴水孔は頭の上面にある。（属）：体盤は著しく幅広く，通常体盤幅は体盤長の1.5倍以上。（種）：体は円滑である。噴水孔内側後端縁にヒゲ状の肉質突起がない。尾棘はない。体はうすい褐色であり，明瞭な斑紋はない。尾部に3〜4本の黒色帯がある。
分 布：
西部大平洋暖海域に広く分布する。
備 考：
大西洋に広く分布し，本種と類似するG. altavelaは良く発達 した尾棘と，噴水孔内側後端縁にヒゲ状の肉質突起を備える。 （上野・三宅）
Distinctive characters
(Family)： Well-developed tail spine present usually. Eye and spiracle on top of head. (Genus)： Disc notably expanded laterally, disc width more than 1.5 times of disc length usually. (Species)： Body smooth. Postermedial margin of spiracle without tentacle-like structure. No spine on tail. Tail with 3〜4 black bands.
Distribution：
Warm-temperate sea of the western Atlantic.
Remarks：
G. altavela, widely distributed in the Atlantic, has well-developed tail spine and a slender tentacle-like structure at the posteromedial margin of spiracle. (Uyeno and Miyake)
