Outer corner of disc abruptly subangular, never broadly rounded. Disc width 1.1〜1.2 times of disc length. Snout short, preoral length 1/5 of disc width. Eye larger than spiracle, its diameter (including skin obviously covering eye-ball) 1/3 of preoral length. Anterior margin of pelvic nearly straight. Tail long, its length 1.6〜1.7 times of disc width. A low longitudinal ridge close behind tip of tail spine; lower surface of tail with a longitudinal dermal fold originating at level of spine, width of fold equal to height of tail above fold. Thorns run along midline of disc in adult (the present specimens immature, so that only a few thorns present on scapular region).
Distribution:
Coastal waters from New Jersey to southern Brazil.
Remarks:
D. centroura, closely similar to the present species in shape of disc, has a low ventral fold, no ridge posterior to spine, and no thorns along midline of back. (Uyeno and Sasaki)
