(Family):Electric organ developed between side of head and forward extension of pectoral. Two dorsal fins. Skin smooth. (Genus):Mouth narrow, not widely distensible. Posterior margins of pelvics not joined across base of tail. Nasal curtain much broader than long. (Species):Rear margin of caudal fin nearly straight. Margin of spiracle ringed with a single series of papillae. First dorsal originated on, or slightly behind distal margin of pelvic fin. Mucous pores on caudal region varies (Fig.). Upper surface dark brown with markings varying in distinctness.
Distribution:
Widely distributed in the western Atlantic.
Remarks:
Nature of variation of mucous pore pattern is uncertain. (Uyeno and Miyake)
