(Family):Electric organ developed between side of head and forward extension of pectoral. Two dorsal fins. Skin smooth. (Genus):Mouth widely distensible. Disc width greater than disc length. Preanal length longer than tail length. (Species):Skin entirely naked. First dorsal originated clearly in front of rear end of pelvic base. Disc of young deeply notched on both sides about opposite mouth. Dorsal surface of body uniform blackish brown; ventral surface white.
Distribution:
Temperate to tropical zones of both sides of the Atlantic. (Uyeno and Miyake)
