General formation of carapace, chelipeds and ambulatory legs is close to that of R. louisianensis Rathbun, but readily distinguished from it mainly by differences in shape of frontorbital armature. Two longitudinal gutters on supraorbital border remarkably long and make a characteristic appearance, being directed obliquely inward and outward, respectively. A spine at distal end of merus of cheliped; lower border of palm armed with four spines. Dactyli of ambulatory legs comparatively narrower, while distal three segments of last reduced leg are wider.
Distribution:
Previously known from the Straits of Florida and west coast of Florida (20-70 m deep), Colombia, and Barbados (190 m deep). Rathbun (1937) recorded this species also from the Pacific coasts of Panama and Colombia.
Remarks:
There is a Pacific analogue, R. benedicti Rathbun, which is known from Mexico, Costa Rica and Equador.
