A slender species, with rather soft exoskeleton. Carapace smooth and rather depressed as usual, having a median and two dorsolateral longitudinal ridges; two forward-directing spines on median ridge and a similar spine at central part of each dorsolateral ridge; a longitudinal suture along dorsolateral ridge, originating from antennal spine; hepatic and branchiostegal spines sharp. Rostrum spiniform and very weakly directed dorsally, extending nearly to anterior end of cornea. First four abdominal segments rather depressed, while posterior three segments rather compressed; the sixth about twice as long as the fifth.
Distribution:
West Atlantic from off northeast of America through the Gulf of Mexico to the Lesser Antilles, the East Atlantic from south of the Canarias to South Africa, and the Indian Ocean, 370-3,440 m deep.
