Counts：D Ⅸ, 11～12; A Ⅲ, 12; P1 13; SLL 24～27.
特 徴：
体は側扁する。上顎の先端に2本，下顎の先端に4本の犬歯があり，上顎の後側方にも1本の犬歯がある。側線の開孔部は各鱗に1個のみ。尾鰭の上端と下端は後方へわずかに延長する。体の背方は橙黄色で腹方は淡青色。胸鰭基部下部から体腹方を尾鰭基部まで1黄色縦線が走る。頭部には数本の淡青色線が走る。背鰭と臀鰭は橙赤色で淡青色縦線がある。尾鰭は橙赤色で淡青色の不規則な模様がある。眼の後方に1小黒点がある。
分 布：
フロリダ，アンチル諸島，スリナム沿岸。
備 考：
本種は同属のH. poeyiに似るが，H. poeyiでは体前部の側線鱗に開孔部が3個あること，背鰭基部後端に1小黒色点があることなどで区別できる。 （松浦）
Distinctive characters：
Body elongate and compressed. Upper jaw with 2 canines anteriorly and an additional canine posterolaterally; lower jaw with 4 canines anteriorly. Lateral line scales with a single pore. Upper and lower lobes of caudal fin slightly projecting. Body yellowish olive dorsally, pale ventrally; a longitudinal yellow line running from lower pectoral base to caudal base; head with several pale blue lines; dorsal and anal fins olivaceous red with longitudinal blue stripes; caudal fin olivaceous red with irregular blue markings; a small black spot posterior to eye.
Distribution：
Florida, Antilles, and Suriname.
Remarks：
This species is similar to H. poeyi which is different from the former by having 3 pores on the anterior lateral-line scales and a small black spot on the posterior part of the dorsal fin. (Matsuura)
