特 徴：
体は側扁する。側線は途中で切れることはなく尾鰭基部まで続く。両顎の前方に数本の犬歯があり，上顎の後側方にも犬歯が1本ある。背鰭棘条部の鰭膜は深く切れこむ。背鰭と臀鰭の後部軟条は糸状に延長し尾鰭基部をこえる。尾鰭の上端と下端も後方へ糸状に延長する。体の背方と腹方は赤く，体側中央部は白い。背鰭の軟条部後方から尾鰭までは黄色。背鰭の軟条部中央から前半は赤く，棘条部の前端に1黒色斑がある。腹鰭と臀鰭は赤い。胸鰭は淡色で上後端に1黒色斑がある。尾鰭の大部分は黄色で下縁は赤い。
分 布：
バハマ諸島からスリナム沿岸まで。アセンション島からも記録がある。
備 考：
本種は同属のB. rufusに似るが，B. rufusには胸鰭上後端に黒色斑がないので識別できる。 （松浦）
Distinctive characters：
Body elongate and compressed. Lateral line continuous, not interrupted. Both jaw with anterior canines, upper jaw with an additional canine posterolaterally. Spinous dorsal fin deeply notched. Posterior rays of dorsal and anal fins greatly elongated posteriorly beyond caudal base. Upper and lower lobes of caudal fin produced into filaments. Body red dorsally and ventrally, white mid-laterally; posterior part of body from below posterior rays of dorsal fin to caudal base bright yellow; dorsal fin red anteriorly bright yellow posteriorly; a black spot on anterior part of spinous dorsal fin; pelvic and anal fins red; pectoral fin pale with a black blotch; caudal fin yellow with red lower margin.
Distribution：
From Bahamas to Suriname; reported from Ascension.
Remarks：
This species resembles B. rufus but differs from it by having a black blotch on the pectoral fin. (Matsuura)
