特 徴：
体はやや側扁し，細長い。体長は体高の6.8倍，頭長の3.2倍。両顎に鋭い犬歯があり，下顎は上顎よりも前方へ突出する。胸鰭の後端は腹鰭基部に達しない。背鰭と臀鰭の最後の軟条は直前の軟条よりもやや長い。尾鰭は深く2叉する。体の背方はやや赤みのある褐色で，腹方は白色。吻から第2背鰭までの背側は暗褐色。背鰭と尾鰭は暗灰色。腹鰭と臀鰭は淡黄色。
分 布：
バーミューダからバハマ諸島をへてウルグアイ沿岸まで。
備 考：
本種は同属の他種から胸鰭後端が腹鰭基部に達しないこと，背鰭と臀鰭の最後の軟条が著しくは延長しないことによって区別される。 （松浦）
Distinctive characters：
Body elongate and slightly compressed, body depth 6.8 in SL. Lower jaw projected beyond upper jaw, both jaws with sharp enlarged canine teeth. Posterior tip of pectoral fin not reaching to origin of pelvic fin. Last ray of dorsal and anal fins slightly longer than penultimate ray. Caudal fin deeply forked. Body brown with a red cast dorsally, white ventrally; dorsal side from snout to second dorsal fin dark brown; dorsal and caudal fins dusky; pelvic and anal fins pale yellow.
Distribution：
Bermuda through Bahamas to Urguay.
Remarks：
This species is separable from other species of Sphyraena by the following points：the tip of the pectoral fin not reaching to the origin of the pelvic fin and the last ray of the dorsal and anal fins not much produced. (Matsuura)
